Extra Curricular

Our students have opportunities to experience life outside the classroom through various events.

We pride ourselves in having an active programme with daily fitness and weekly PE, sports, tramping, swimming sessions and community visits

With support, our students are encouraged at all times to be responsible and independent so they can reach potential.

Special Olympics

Ruru Specialist School participates and loves being part of the Special Olympics programme. It is a highlight for many of our students where they compete against other schools in different sports.

The students receive coaching from the Special Olympics coach – Chris Moffitt from Dunedin. He provides skills and drills in preparation for the competition that is being held that particular term. It is fantastic to see the progress and improvement made prior to the tournament day and the fun and social skills enjoyed on the actual day.

At the conclusion of each tournament, students are congratulated and receive certificates in a prize giving.

We are grateful that our students participate in this programme.

With support, our students are encouraged at all times to be responsible and independent so they can reach potential.
