Transitions

We make many transitions in our lives but one of the most critical is our move from school into adulthood.

Transition is a significant journey for the ākonga from school into adulthood and the community. Student Transition plans are developed and implemented from age fourteen, culminating in the final Transition period in the students’ 21st year. The Transition process supports ākonga and their family/whanau as they prepare to embark on this journey.

At Ruru Specialist school we ensure that the student is at the centre of the Transition process enabling the ākonga to direct the process and where Families/Whanau are fully involved. Relevant and current information on post-school options are shared with the ākonga and their Family/whanau. Transitioning from school is a coordinated and recognised process with schools, ākonga, families, whanau, and agencies working collaboratively to attain the best opportunities and outcomes for the ākonga.
